A grant from the Northwest Area Foundation will assist South Dakota Voices for Children to start a State Fiscal Analysis Initiative (SFAI) program for South Dakota. Such a project will provide information and analysis on state government spending and revenues that could aid in advocating for effective policies to achieve prosperity for all South Dakotans.
The budget is a state?s single most powerful decision-making tool. But too often budgets are written and debated in terms that most citizens (and even many policymakers) can?t understand. SFAI groups provide the translation. They analyze budget rends and options to make clear the crucial choices that states face.
SFAI groups work at the state level to improve economic security and opportunity by examining the barriers that can prevent low-income families from improving their lives and by identifying sound policy solutions like better health care, affordable child care, work supports and income assistants.
