Seven presented ideas at KIDS SPEAK 2009
Seven students participated in South Dakota Voices for Children?s 2009 KIDS SPEAK public forum in late April. They were:
- Andrea Driscoll, 11th grade, Spearfish,
- Natasha Grussing, 9th grade, Brandon Valley,
- Sean Higgins, 10th grade, Brookings,
- Katie Rall, 12th grade, Brandon Valley,
- Heidi Ranschau, 12th grade, Sioux Falls,
- Tiffany Schlotterbeck, 10th grade, Castlewood,
- Mitchell Witt, 9th grade, Custer.
The 2009 KIDS SPEAK topic was ?Healthy Bodies/Healthy Minds: How can communities create a positive environment for children and youth?? Students from across the state were invited to apply for the event, which gives young people the opportunity to speak directly to influential adults who comprise a panel of distinguished listeners. The 2009 panel included:
- Joanne Groves, 2009 School Board Member of the Year, Associated School Boards of South Dakota; Huron School Board
- Secretary Doneen Hollingsworth, state Department of Health,
- Rep. Shantel Krebs, District 10, Sioux Falls,
- David Law, Journalist, Greater Dakota Radio News Service,
- Sen. Craig Tieszen, District 34, Rapid City.
Sponsored by South Dakota Voices for Children with funding support from the Coordinated School Health Program of the state Departments of Education and Health, and Ann Lewis Henkin, MS, LPC, parent and family coaching, the forum was held in conjunction with South Dakota Voices for Children's Champion for Children Awards Luncheon.
